Tricks to Do With A Hair Root Concealer

I’ve just been to a masterclass in hairstyling with celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin and Chris Appleton in London and one of the products she used alot during the class, was a root concealer. I havn’t had much experience with this kind of product, but after I’ve watched Jen use it and studied pictures of what effect it actually has in a picture, I’m going to start using it.

A root conealer is a powder or a spray that covers dark roots, grey hair, a thin hairline or a parting. Just watch this picture of me, where I have a tight ponytail and my hairline is superpoor after breastfeeding. I should have known about this product back then…..

When it comes to partings Jen is obsessed with them being STRAIGHT, and she powders them with Colour Wow, because it photograhs better when you can’t see bare skin. You can also use a matte eyeshadow, and you simply dab the product in the parting with a brush.

Another product Jen used alot during the class, was Rita Hazan Root Concealer. She uses it a lot when working with extensions, for a more natural effect and for the extensions to blend in easier. She simply sprays the roots of the extensions a couple of tones darker. Most people have darker roots naturally, so the extensions should be to.

Another way to use this spray, is to fake darker roots in a blond hair, for a more edgy effect. It looks quite cool.

This picture is a quite extreme way of using a root spray, where hairstylist Cim Mahony has sprayed the roots of model Kirsten Liljegreens blonde hair, almost black. But it works in pictures and it looks really cool.
